About The Bad Music

Posted in Around The House, Family at 3:25 pm by Mrs. Mom

I asked for gospel. Simple request. 5 or 6 cd’s in the system ready to play with a touch of a button. It’s definately not gospel playing. But as I sit here listening to really bad music I couldn’t figure out what is playing. What is that offensive noise coming from upstairs

Some type of rap? Could it be grunge or punk? No, it really isn’t. I didn’t think so, but ya never can tell. So I go upstairs, and low and behold. It’s two different offensive noises combining to create one awful bunch of noise. I wouldn’t call it music. Brandon had Sound Garden playing… and Kevin has ’Luuu…uuuu…uuuu…ving You…. lalala… lalala… lalala…’ *shudders at the sound of that particular song*

My Baby is Seventeen

Posted in Family at 3:15 pm by Mrs. Mom

Today my T-man is 17. I can’t hardly believe my baby is 17 years old! My baby! Seventeen. It doesn’t seem quite right to say that.

We’ll be going out to dinner with grandparents later. But this is a working Saturday. Doesn’t matter that it’s someone’s seventeenth birthday.  Doesn’t matter that my baby isn’t 16 anymore. Nope. It’s a working Saturday. Right now I can hear the saw buzzing, someone is hammering, and someone sanding. Really bad music is playing in the background… and Kevin just brought me a bag of cell phones out of our closet ‘do we need all of these?’.  I best get back to work here too…

Little Reminders

Posted in Family at 9:47 pm by Mrs. Mom

We’ve been working hard around the house this week. I’ll have more on that later, but right now I just want to say I’m thankful for the huge tree branch that landed on the house.

You see, Kevin, Brandon, Drew, and I were sitting around our dining table, talking about our to-do list. T-man was out on the john-deere, working on his part of the to-do list. We could here the motor running as he was cutting the grass on the side of the hill. We were talking about the other things we have to get done before Monday evening. All of a sudden the motor stopped, there was a huge, crashing thud and our house shook.

My boys both yelled their baby brother’s name and jumped from the table. One of the boys actually jumped over the table or T-man’s chair or something. I just remember seeing a boy airborn headed in the direction of the door. In that moment, I realized the terror they were feeling. My heart just about stopped and we were all racing to get out the door and down the deck, to the end of the house. Not wanting to see… but needing to know.

It wasn’t T-man. He was fine. He hadn’t rolled the tractor. It was just a branch. A great huge branch (size of a small tree)… but just a branch. He had seen it falling and he shut down to go investigate, just as the thing hit our house.

I’m  so thankful that’s all it was.

BTW… if you got the message this afternoon asking for prayers for T-man, yes he’s doing fine. The asthma attack didn’t go into full swing. It’s been years since he had a full blown attack. It’s been years since he had a little attack. I forgot how scarry it is. And if you received a prayer request for Brandon this late afternoon, he’s doing fine too.

I’m just so thankful for my day. I’m thankful for the reminders of where we are, and who we have to look upon for help in times of need.

It’s Already Friday

Posted in Family, Friday Chat at 5:18 am by Mrs. Mom

My very random thoughts are every where across the board this morning.

Monday night Aaron and my mom came over for dinner. I bbq’d beef ribs. My family of big boys devoured the ribs. I couldn’t believe how good they were, even though they weren’t done on the grill. I rubbed Johnny’s seasoning salt and onion powder into 4 racks of ribs. Then I layered them on the metal rack in the Nesco, and cooked them at 250 for about 5 hours. Then I brushed them with Bullseye, sweet and sticky BBQ sauce, and cooked them another 2 hours. It took 3 bottles of sauce to cover them. I turned the Nesco up to the highest heat for the last 10 minutes they were cooking… just as I was setting the table and getting everything else ready to serve.

It was fun sitting around the table visiting with the kids. We laughed and reminisced about the funny things the kids got themselves into when they were kids.

Stories of Brandon always keep us laughing. We were talking about how little our grandson is compared to our grandaughter. Chris and T-man were really big babies. Tall… and you know they always say if you double the baby boy’s height at 18 months (or is it 24 months?) that’s how tall he’ll be as an adult. (Is that an old wives tale?). It seems to have worked out for Aaron, Chris, and Andrea. T-man is almost to his predicted height, but he’s only 16 (I can still claim my baby is 16…. for a few more days). It definitely didn’t figure out for Brandon! He’s at least 8” taller than we figured when he was little.

We were all laughing about how Brandon would be barreling through the house and run right under the dining table when he was 3 years old. One day he came barreling through the house and as he was about to run under the table it knocked him right back on his little behind. He got up, shook his head where he’d just banged into the table, backed up and tried it again. Bam… knocked right onto his little behind again. He looked the situation over, then did it the third time! He wanted to cry. It must have hurt. But he stood up and surveyed the distance from the table to the floor. He’d ran under the table the day before. Surely this couldn’t be right.   His Auntie Chuck or Uncle Ernie teased him about someone cutting the legs off the table. It was definitely one of those moments I’ll never forget.

Tuesday night Aaron slept on our sofa. Kevin dropped him off at the airport at 4:00am on Wednesday. By mid-morning he was in Sunny California with his family. The kids have sent several pictures of the little beach baby to my phone. He seems to be having fun in the sun!

Last night I went shopping with mom. We didn’t do the mall this time… No. We were grocery shopping at Walmart. I’m telling ya what, the rude people must hang out there. They were everywhere. There were groups of people shopping together and they’d all block the aisle with their carts. One time I was stuck in the middle of two different groups of people for what seemed like 5 minutes. How long does it take to chose shampoo? Seriously. No one would move aside, even when I said something. It’s just one more reason for me to not want to shop there.

Well, I’m off. I’m shopping again today. Mall shopping!  Actually, I’m going walking in the mall. I’ll call it shopping, even if I don’t have on my cute shoes.
