Love Notes from Uwajimaya

Posted in What's Cooking at 10:19 pm by lilbitgabby

The other day I found this little cookie fortune in my box of green tea… I thought how sweet… hubby left this to let me know I’m domestically inclined and  we will be happily married LOL

Oh by the way, I did find a new green tea. It’s a jasmine green tea. Mmmmm! We went shopping at the Seattle Uwajimaya store. I generally shop a smaller asian grocery store, but it’s fun to browse the larger stores every once in awhile.

Uwajimaya has a fresh seafood department. I’m talking fresh. We watched the fish swimming around in the big tanks. Hubby even took some pictures of some of them. While hubby was taking a photo, a woman walked up and placed her order. She chose her fish… the fishmonger used his net to catch the thing… poor thing, didn’t even know what was happening. One minute he’s happy as a clam… swimming around without a care, next thing ya know he’s taken out of the water, gasping for air… gasping for water,  bonked on the head… laid out on the table, sliced open and gutted, cut into fillets, wrapped up, and handed over to the happy little chef. Such is the life of a fish…

Adventures I Could Do Without

Let me first ask this question. What do you think when you see that beautiful mountain? Does it call your name… tempting you to go 4wheeling? NO? Me either. When my boys see that mountain and the snow line… they can’t seem to stay away. I have no idea what the big draw is.

Every time my SIL has been out here to WA, the kids have headed out in their trucks, seeking thrills  I will never understand. This past Christmas vacation was no exception.

Christmas Eve we had a wonderful little family gathering in our home. Hmmm… little? Well, all the kids, grandkids, grandparents… and extended family (Lisa’s mom & step dad, her brother and his 3 babies) were here for our little Christmas gathering. It was a full house.

Christmas day we had plans… it is a family holiday and my family was all home. Of course we had plans. We have plans even when the kids aren’t all home for the holiday. It’s Christmas!

So when my boys all decided they had to go to the mountain on Christmas Eve, I thought, ok… they know it’s Christmas Eve. They know we get up early for our Christmas traditions…. Christmas socks and presents! They won’t stay out too late. I figured they’d be home by 1:30am at the latest.

Well, sometime during the wee hours of the morning I woke up and realized my boys weren’t home. Hmmmm…. should I worry? No, why worry? It was only snowing in the low lands… how bad could it be up on the mountain?  Yeah. How bad could it be. Let me tell ya, I was worried. They came rolling in sometime around 6:00 am. No sleep and did they have stories to tell. What a relief! They were home.

It was rather hectic when they all got home. I heard snippets… ’snow this deep’ and ’stuck in the ditch’ and sometime during all this I learned Brandon’s truck was stuck in the snow up on the mountain… and they left it. What could I say?

So we were awake. We were digging into our socks… Brandon was sleeping. We were opening presents… Brandon was sleeping. We were getting ready for the day… all the boys were sleeping on Christmas day.

Later that morning, Christmas morning, Brandon, Aaron, and a friend headed back to the mountain to get the truck. When they headed out, I didn’t realize it was just the three of them going. No phone service. Not very prepared for all that snow. Hours later… late afternoon or early evening, just as we were talking about calling search and rescue, they called to let us know they were almost to Granite Falls. Safe.

It was definately a Christmas day to remember.

Mt. Pilchuck… it’s beautiful from a distance.

Snow Day!

As it turned out, T-man didn’t have school today. Yup… we are snowed in. And it’s snowing some more. Fun… huh? For the most part it’s fun. Game of sequence… anyone? :)

Snow and Hot Chocolate

Posted in Friday Chat at 12:27 am by lilbitgabby

T-man has gone to bed with the hopes of a late start tomorrow. The snow on in our yard sort of melted and has since frozen. It’s going to be ugly on the highways and by-ways tomorrow.

I know it’s late, but I couldn’t resist the cozy fire and hot chocolate during the quiet of the night.
