Amish Friendship Bread Directions

Posted in What's Cooking at 2:56 pm by lilbitgabby

Last year one of our neighbors gave me a batch of Amish friendship starter. It’s not a yeast starter.  The concept is much like the sourdough starter, in that it is passed around from one homemaker to another homemaker.

The Amish friendship bread is very rich. It’s dense and moist, sweet, and has a cinnamon flavor. Yummy. Of course the cinnamon can be omitted.

Why am I talking about friendship bread now? Because I watched Martha Stewart today.  Oh you know me. I watch Martha every day. I tuned in a couple minutes late, but apparently a little gal gave Martha a batch of Amish friendship bread starter.  I wonder if Martha is really going to continue the starter and pass it around to her friends.

If you are lucky enough to receive a bag of Amish friendship bread starter, but you need the instructions to take care of the starter, to make the bread, or need to print out extra instructions to pass out to your friends, I posted the directions for taking care of the starter on my website last year.  Directions for Amish Friendship Bread

When I’m baking the bread, my home smells so yummy. Now that’s an amazing home fragrance… it’s a good thing.

Updated My Family Favorite Recipes

Posted in What's Cooking at 10:49 am by lilbitgabby

I updated the kitchen section of my website and added the recipe for Chipotle Dip to my family favorite recipes.

The chipotle dip is a definate keeper in my family. My boys were buying the dip at a local deli, but it is several dollars per pound of dip. Lucky for me, they add an ingredient list to the dip container. One of the ingredients was chipotle powder. I looked everywhere for chipotle powder. Well, everywhere I could think to look, and I could not find powdered chipotle.

I tried the dip with canned chipotle peppers, but it wasn’t the same. One day I was browsing my local grocery store for taco seasoning and there it was… Ortega chipotle taco seasoning! Let me tell ya, I was excited LOL Doesn’t take much to excite me, does it?  Anyway, that’s how my version of the chipotle dip came about. I can make the dip for a fraction of the cost of the deli dip, and the best part is, my boys loved my version!

Yup… I have posted the recipe in my blog some time back… but it’s worth posting in my family favorite recipes too.

Poor Confused Girl

Posted in What's Cooking at 2:41 pm by lilbitgabby

Hubby and I were somewhere on Martin Luther King Way.  We stopped into Wendy’s for a quick lunch of chili and a side salad. He ordered his salad and blue cheese dressing. No problem.

Me: I’ll have a side salad with ranch dressing

Cashier: Um. *totally confused look on her face* Let me tell you our salad dressings. We have blue cheese, Italian, and honey mustard, French dressing, and creamy ranch.

She was dead serious. It was too funny. Hubby and I laughed out loud.
